Dog care – where should my dogs be cared for?

PRIVATE DOG CARE?

We can probably quickly agree that it’s great to be a dog owner. There are so many joys about it.

I am at least one of the dog owners who goes with the big smile when I, for example. walks along Kolding Å with my bathing-happy labrador. Or when my little Cavalier goes looking for treats on the grass, and gets to step on his own ears.

But there are a few times every year where I need dog care. And it’s not easy. For who is good enough at all to take care of MY dogs?

DOG PENSION?

My dogs have never been in dog boarding. That is not a principle. In fact, it would have been (in hindsight) smart if they had been used to it from puppies. My little cavalier, I actually think I could easily retire. She is good at ignoring the surroundings and just sleeping. She never collides with other dogs because she has no temperament. She adapts quickly wherever she is.

But my labrador is another matter. She’s not an ordinary labrador! She hates change. She does not like very many other dogs. She has a hard time finding peace if too much is happening around her. She does not like unknown sounds. Yes, I could go on. My dog is nervous and she thrives best in familiar surroundings and with regular routines. Therefore, I think it would be hard for her to retire now that she is not used to it. Bottom line – my dogs can not be cared for in a dog boarding house, so I have to find alternatives.

PRIVATE DOG CARE?

Private dog care is great if you can find a place where there is time and space for the dogs. I always get my passports from my parents, who also have the mother of my labrador. It works great. The dogs, especially in the beginning of their lives, have been there a lot. The house is almost like their own and they feel really comfortable. And I do too !!!

Yes, I stand by it. It’s more me who has a problem with the care than it might actually be the dogs.

But I only relax if I’m sure my dogs are well. I need to make sure they get some good airing and lots of attention.

IN GOOD CONSCIENCE

Apart from the fact that my dogs must of course be well, it also means a lot to me that I do not feel that I am imposing too great a burden on the dog sitters. You probably know it well – you meet many people on your way who are crazy about your dog. They often say that you should finally just say no when you need care. But are they really aware of what task they are about to say yes to?

If it’s a dog sitter who does not own or have had a dog, then I do not think they always know the scope of the task.

And it must be my noblest task to assess whether the dog sitter holds the task. It gives both security and peace when I pack my suitcase and leave my dogs!

SO HERE IS WHAT I THINK YOU SHOULD CONSIDER IF YOU NEED DOG CARE

If your dog needs a dog pension:

Does your dog have the mind to be in dog boarding?

Find a dog boarding house where your gut feeling tells you (with conviction) that here your dog will feel good

If your dog needs to be cared for privately:

Find a place where your dog feels comfortable

Find a place where you are sure that the dog sitter knows the scope of the task

Find a place where you are sure there is plenty of time for your dog

Find a place where you feel comfortable with your dog
